Fork extensions for my lift truck: what should I be aware of?

Fork extensions, function and safety: what should I be aware of?

Normally fork extensions are limited to 1.5 times the length of the original forks. If they are any longer, there is a tendency for the extensions to bend downwards around the tip of the original fork.

If it is essential that you have extensions more than 1.5 times the fork length, the tip of the extensions should be pocketed so that they are full box-section from the end of the fork to the tip of the extension, with additional strengthening on the unsupported length internally.

You should always, of course, always bear in mind the implication of fork extensions on load centres and therefore, nominal capacities.
