Fleet Management

At Bendigo Mitchell, we are experts in forklift truck fleet management. The majority of our clients are multi-truck users, who benefit from our expertise and guidance.

Whether you are looking to purchase or hire trucks, or a mixture of the two, our materials handling experts will work with you to ensure the most productive and cost effective fleet possible for your business.

Case Study 1

Our customer came to us looking for advice. For many years, they had been working with a major truck manufacturer and wanted to ensure they were running as efficient a fleet as possible.

Their site was running a combination of reach, counterbalance and powered pallet trucks. Their uneven floors were casuing reliability problems with the reach trucks while the sheer number of trucks on site was both hazardous and expensive.

Via one all-encompassing site visit, and a meeting with the production and procurement teams, we were able to rationalise the fleet. This was achieved via:

  • Employing 3 wheel counterbalance machines in place of some reach trucks, greatly improving reliability and reducing downtime
  • Replacing powered pallet trucks with pedestrian stackers, therefore reducing the overall number of counterbalance trucks required
  • Employment of quick release attachments to reduce the number of trucks required

The net result was a 15% reduction in on-going fleet costs and a 7% increase in productivity due to reduced downtime.

See the chart above (thanks to Andy for providing us with this) to see the impact of their move to Bendigo Mitchell for their forklift truck fleet requirements.

Case Study 2

We received an enquiry from a company running between 20 and 30 trucks depending on seasonal demand. Their fleet comprised a combination of their own machines and hire trucks. Their concern was (to quote from their original email) 'our own trucks seem to be worked on all the time, for which we receive regular, sizeable bills. The hire trucks barely receive any attention at all however, and are running with a number of problems.'

A full assessment of their needs, including hours usage analysis showed that with a fully fit and maintained hire fleet, we could reduce the number of hire trucks required by 3. An added benefit was the presence of a fully operational fleet meant our customer's own trucks were no longer over-worked, reducing paid for maintenance costs.

The impact on the business was a 12% reduction in hire costs, a calculated 4 hour decrease in downtime per week, and anecdotally, a 'very pleasing drop in maintenance costs on our own trucks.'
